Imagine trying to run a marathon with someone constantly tugging at your shoelaces. That's what being micromanaged feels like.I'll never forget when a supervisor told me to cc them on all emails I sent to the broader org. And the number of times others have told me they've been asked to do the same. That was a moment for me, to say the least. I think it is a clear moment for anyone in that kind of situation. It's exhausting, uninspiring, stifles innovation, annihilates trust, and shrinks creativity. Perhaps you've seen or experienced a sequence like this: ๐ A passionate specialist is hired to bring unique skills to the table. ๐ They step into the new role, eager to make an impact. ๐ Then, under the suffocating shadow of micromanagement, their enthusiasm wanes. ๐ Their creativity is boxed in. ๐ Their growth stunted. ๐ What about all those unique skills and ideas they were hired to bring? ๐ They are silence, by the constant sound of "do it my way."What if the sequence was changed to include a leader who treats their new hires respectfully and lets them build on what they were hired to do? One who fuels their passion, not douse it. One who trusts, rather than doubts. One who nurtures growth, instead of stifling it. ๐ช That's where the magic happens.๐ชThat's where creativity thrives, and trust is built. Be that leader. Be the one who trusts, nurtures, and inspires. ๐ฅ ๐ฅ ๐ฅAlso, read Liz Wiseman's book, Impact Players-- it's one of my favorites!

I've worked from home since 2016.Since then, my life has been supplemented with two little humans. I genuinely can't imagine those first couple of years being anywhere but home. The opportunities I've had in the same window of time have only been doable because of the flexibility that comes with working from home. The Newborn Era is behind me, but I will forever be grateful for the moments I was here for.

Please remember that every person has their own definition of "work-life balance."For me, I am rarely sending an email between 7:00 - 8:00 AM because I'm getting my girls ready for their day. But, you might get an email from me between 7:00 - 8:00 PM because I'm usually available then and want to get messages out.I know some people say to delay sending those emails until the next morning.BUT the reality is, I don't know what I don't know about the other person's life. They might have more flexibility that time of night than they do the next morning. There's zero expectation that someone is going to respond that night.Frankly, to think I know what someone else's work-life balance looks like is absurd.๐ค ๐คTell your friends. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅImage byRoberto Ferraro

How do we get more women into leadership roles? The standard advice is "Get an advanced degree!" or "Find a mentor!" or "Wait your turn"That's great if you're willing to play the long game. But if you want to fast-track it? Start your own company. In 2013, I took the entrepreneurial leap. My friends and family thought I was nuts to leave my "real job." "Why give up the great career you have?" they asked. Well, three years later, the company I co-founded was acquired. Since then, I've had other executive roles in the C-suite. None of this would have happened had I not made the initial leap!So when people ask how we get more women in executive positions, my advice is the sameโtake the risk and bet on yourself. Start your own company. You'll be the boss from day one. The path is not easy, but the rewards can be immense, both personally and professionally. No glass ceilings when you build your own house.
