Throe Good Deeds.
Franklin Murphy brought sym-
pathetic tears to tho eyes of his
hearers at the dinner of the Leath-
er Manufacturers' Association by
relating a story of benevolence.
A friend of his he said was walk-
ing down to business one morning
when he saw a young woman with
a baby in her arms sitting on a
church stsp and weeping. The
man whom Mr. Murphy called
Jones was touched by her appar-
ent distress and asked what was
the cause af it.
"I walked into town" she re-
plied uto have my baby baptized
aud now it will cost three dollars
to have tho service performed. I
haven't the money and I don't
know what to do-".
"Well thats a small matter" said
Jones. "I haven't three dollars
in change but here's a $10 bill.
Take it and I will wait here for
the change."
The woman returned in a short
time and handed Jones $7. He
patted the child's head aud went
down town rejoicing at his own
goodness. He felt good all day
and his countenance shone with
an unusual brightness. His asso-
ciates all noticed the change and
finally one of them asked him the
cause of it.
UI am happier than usual to-day"
said Jones "and the reason of it is
that I did three good things on my
way down town this morning."
He related the occurrence and
wound up by saying :
"So I performed a deed of char-
ity started a little child on its. way
to Paradise and got $7 for a $10
counterfeit bill. Ex.

Salksmak Yes this is tho stove you Inquired for. As you say. It does not look oxtciij
like the one your mother recommended you to buy. and which shb thinks so much of but llsa
Charter Ottz llanyc. Wo hare the Cook Stores of tho samo pake but tho Sanges are used
more generally now. as they ore moro convenient lion lone has your mother had her stove?
Young Married Lady Oh! cvcrpolons. She bought It when I was a baby and has been
using it ever since and hIio told me I must pot tho samo kind.
Salesman Well this is the Fame kind That is it Is a Charter Oak but you must remem-
ber that twenty years i n long time and improvements have been made slnco your mother sot
hers. Thi llanyc ha the wonderful Wire dauze Orcn Door which you have probably
heard of. as it id known aud tuld everywhere In connection witli our Stoves and Ranges.
Young Maruiud Lady Oh! I remember now. She sjtokc alWmt that but I can't understand
why that should moke it t-o much better than our old stove as that was as good as it could be.
Salesman There is no doubt about its being much better; it is a wonderful improvement
It bakes everything eo much nicer and tho meats arc not dried up like they are In the old
fashioned tight ovens. Why a steak can be broiled in that oven is perfectly as over a charcoal
Arc. and tho natural juices of the meat which make it so appetizing will all be retained. It is
just the same with roast meats ot course it is needless for pe to speak of Its other good
qualities as your mouicr's amice nas mauc mat unnecessary.

To Mill Mites.
Kerosene emnlsion is one of the
most efficient insectides known for
use in the poultry yard. A friend
who has had. a large amount of ex-
perience in a small amount of time
with chicken mites tells us that
he has been experimenting with
various preparation including di-
luted sulphric acid lime and de-
coction of tobacco and that the
mites placed in tbeso substances
would come forth from the treat-
ment life and energy unabated
but when tho kerosene emulsion
was applied the festive pest pro-
ceeded to die and with a unanimi-
ty that would do credit to either
of the political parties in congiess
when a vote is taken. In the in-
dividual experience sulphuric acid
has never failed to exterpntnte
these pests. However the emul-
sion is beyond question good for
the purpose as the evidence in its
favor is sufficient to establish the
fact and it is therefore to be rec-
ommended. It will also extermi-
nate other insect pests such as
different kinds of lice that prey
upon chickens old and young.
The emulsion is made by cutting
up a pouidof auy plain soap in
two gallons of water and boiling
until a strong suds is made aud
while still hot stirring in a pint of
kerosene. This can be kept and
diluted with water to any required
strength and applied with a water-
ing pot. m
