REPORTER DERBY CITY PIZZA OWNER LARRY DAVIS POSTED THIS SECURITY VIDEO TO SOCIAL MEDIA, OFFERING A $1,000 REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST OF THE MASKED AND ARMED THIEVES WHO BROKE INTO THIS RESTAURANT THE NIGHT OF JUNE 8TH. THANKFULLY, THERE WAS NO EMPLOYEES HERE, BUT WITH WITH THOSE GUYS, UH, BRINGING WEAPONS INTO THE PICTURE, IT’S REALLY SCARY, HE SAYS. WITHIN 3.5 MINUTES, HE LOST A WEEK’S WORTH OF SALES FROM A SAFE THAT HADN’T BEEN BOLTED DOWN. THEY WOUND UP TAKING THE WHOLE SAFE. THEY TOOK SOME LIQUOR OFF THE SHELF. HE INTENDS TO BE MORE PROACTIVE. A NEW SAFE IS BEING INSTALLED AND SECURED. HE DOESN’T WANT TO PUT BARS ON THE WINDOWS AND DOORS, BUT HE’S CONSIDERING IT. PUNCTURED THE FUEL TANK TO MAKE SURE ALL THE GAS WAS GONE. Crittenden Drive restaurant, and nearby plumber, targeted by thieves
Over the weekend, the Derby City Pizza location on Crittenden Drive fell victim to a burglary. Despite reopening for business, owner Larry Davis is still grappling with the aftermath of the incident.“I’m willing to put some cash up and get these guys off the streets,” Davis said.In an effort to aid the investigation, Davis posted a security video on social media, offering a thousand-dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of the masked and armed thieves who broke into the restaurant on the night of June 8.“Thankfully, there were no employees here, but with those guys bringing weapons into the picture, it’s really scary,” Davis said.Within a span of three and a half minutes, the thieves managed to steal a week’s worth of sales from a safe that hadn’t been bolted down: “They wound up taking out the whole safe. They took some liquor off the shelf.”In response to the incident, Davis plans to be more proactive in securing his business. A new safe is being installed and secured, but he is reluctant to put bars on the windows and doors.“I can only turn it in to insurance so many times, you know, before they cancel you, so I try not to do any of that,” Davis said.On the same night, a few doors down, thieves targeted a van belonging to Gardner’s Plumbing.“All the tools were gone. They took every tool off of it and then a step further, punctured the fuel tank to make sure all the gas was gone,” said manager Thomas Gardner.Whether it’s a coincidence or not, Gardner believes the area needs more police patrolling. “That seems enough to say, ‘Hey, maybe we should have people patrolling it on weeknights or weekends or whatever.’ That’s concerning,” he said.Despite these incidents, visitors continue to stop in for pizza at Derby City Pizza. Davis is meticulously going over every detail of the security video for answers.“It gets relentless, you know, just trying to find out if, you know, you recognize them,” he said.Louisville Metro Police is investigating both incidents and asks those with information to call the tip line at 502-574-LMPD.
